Colonize

Colonize

Hail Oh Brilliant Ones

A time for change, a time for growth, a time to let go of the past and to enter into new negotiations.
The wind calls your name, the trees bend and bow, the earth sings its songs to you and the world is new. Enter, oh brave ones, calls the wild, come into this new land. Come, you daring ones, enter the wild and seek your fortunes from this great land. Poets and writers, sailors and knights, mighty in strength and captivating in mind. The bold and courageous, the clever and witty, the gentle and mild and the purest of intentions. This land is made for you.
In gladness they rise and step onto the soil, a climate of cold and harsh conditions, covered by the warm sun and the gentle breezes, filling the air.
The tall splendor of millions of trees, a forest of life and song and beauty. An escape to a place of far off fantasy, the imagination soars with ambition, adventure, creativity and hope. A land, a new land, a brave new world of dreams and passion, of exploration and capital.
Some come to live, to play and dream, to dwell and inhabit and toil with caring. Some come to adventure, to explore and conquer. Some come to hunt, for dreams, fortunes, possessions and might. Some come for community and some come for gold, but whatever the reason, they now enter this land with hope, with fear and with purpose.
Colonize is the word of the day. A word that sends shivers down the spine and reckless abandon enters the mind. Off to what? Who will they be? Glorious and famous, privileged and mighty. A new land, a new world, seeking the steps of settlers, of colonialists, of hard working folk with persistence and single mindedness. Strong, brave, adaptable people with fitness and endurance. Who will be chosen?

http://www.slmc.uottawa.ca/canada_new_france# the French colonize Canada

There’s fear in their eyes and they cast down their gaze. Off to a new world, a lifetime away, to work for the glory of their lord, the King of France. The brave come forward to add their names to the list. It will be long enough. Long enough for companions, for company, for support. Long enough for caring, for a collaboration of minds and skills.
But still, the new world is a long way away and they will be abandoned there. Left alone on the soil, of a sunny, warm beach, with help, of course.
Line up, all you sailors and with this perfect breeze, we set sail for adventure. Cross the planks from deck to ship, with all of your earthly belongings in hand, prepare to sail. Untie the knots, cast off the line, set the sails and with the rolling of the tide, the ship slips into the great seas and rises to it’s own quest.
Set sail, almighty ones, set sail. For king and for country, your duty awaits you. Set sail, oh brave ones, set sail.

Quiet

Quiet

Good Day, oh brilliant ones.

Welcome!

Welcome to this world in a far off place. A land of forest wealth and wild orchard plenty. A land where the nomad would be secure among the currants and the berries.
The land stretched out its hand and offered food to the adventurer who would dare to traverse the oceans to find it. No more starvation in this land of plenty. Food, to nourish you and food to sustain you. Come to this land and fill your vessels. Fish from the sea, to fill your platters. Dine from the sea, oh great adventurer. Fill your vessels and make your fortune. A harvest of wealth and nourishment from the sea.
The Europeans fished the shores of the Grand Banks of Newfoundland, enjoying the easy catch from casting nets into the seas. Fish, by the thousands, swam in the ocean depths and the bounty of the sea was plentiful and the catch was successful. Harvest the seas, oh brave ones and fill your bellies from the Earth.
Although the Grand Banks are a long way from Europe, over fishing in the waters off the European shore, had depleted the fish stocks there. The next best available, was the long ocean voyage, across the Atlantic to the great fishing hole of the Atlantic, the Grand Banks. A journey of 4565 kilometers across the tumultuous seas to cast their nets into the abundant ocean and return with the victorious catch.
A way of life, the fisherman. Coming from several European countries, the fishermen were English, French, Spanish and Portuguese. Filling vessels by the load, of delectable treats. Over fishing the oceans was not a new issue.
The problems continue. Too many people, not enough food. Even the mighty oceans can’t sustain us.
In the sixteen hundreds, the world was new. Canada and it’s great land of plenty, was opening it’s doors to the impoverished world. “Come, calls the great land, I will feed you!” Come, harvest my platter, you poor, starving souls. There is plenty here.
Four hundred years later, it’s gone.
The great fishing vessels, cast their nets, no more. A crisis in survival, as the oceans are exhausted. Those breeding specimens, caught and eaten, spawn no more. Critically endangered, their numbers plummet. Striving to survive and to live themselves, the stores of the great oceans are closing.
The ecosystem is in peril. Without the variety in the food chain, other species are plundered and perish. The larger, more desirable fish are vanishing and the smaller ones can’t keep up. We’re eating the babies and we’re eating the mature, mating adults.
Eating and eating, plunder and loss, the oceans quiet and the stillness resounds in our ears. The lonely tide rolls in, with no calling birds to greet it, and leaves behind a sterile beach, without shells and seaweed. The tiny shells, a food source for some birds, are vanishing.
Extinction.
But still the tide rolls in and still the oceans call us. Come, mankind, I will feed you no more, but come into the oceans and play.

Those Snow Bridges

Those Snow Bridges

Good Day Bravehearts

The world is welcoming you to this brave new day. A blanket of snow lies covering the earth and the sounds of silence are echoing in our ears. Silence, quiet, peace. The calm of the snow in the dead of winter, where all of the world lies in peaceful dreaming.
Hello! It’s playtime now!
The sidewalks are shoveled. The snow is piled high in deep drifts. The snow plows have worked steadily to clear the roads and traffic is still at a minimum. This awesome day is upon us. Grab your skis before it’s gone, this winter won’t last forever!
The gently falling snow, swirls in large flakes and keeps us shoveling. Up on the ski hill the flat light, keeps us cautious. Picking our way down the familiar runs, twisting and turning and flying like birds. The fabulous rush of the ease of this sport, downhill skiing is just plain fun. Such a nice day and there’s no one around but us.
The joy of a remote place, like a wilderness setting in Canada, is that we have all of the fun.
The rushing, open waters greeted us as we went snowshoeing last week. Snow bridges over open rivers, opening up caverns of cold, icy holes for us to fall into. Down we went, one by one, into the drink. Struggling now to pull ourselves out as our patient companions watch helplessly by. Encouraging words, laughter and abuse, battered and bruised, but onward and onward we brave stalwarts persisted. Up the creek, up the creek, to nowhere. It’s just another afternoon outing into the great outdoors! A chance that we can’t miss, for a warm spell is coming and we’ll loose all of this precious snow.
So although the creek is not at it’s frozen best, we go anyway. The warm winter has left us no, choice. It is wintertime and winter fun is here and we’re going out to play.
The groundhog saw his shadow, of course, he always does. Another bout of stormy weather, more snow, more skiing, more snowballs, snowmen and angels. More shoveling and icy drives, treacherous really, but we’re happy today, in our warm cozy homes. Happy for the winter, the snow and the sports.
Global warming is a curse to us. The warming trends are comfortable. Warm winter full of snow, The icy chill is abating and we can easily go out to play for hours without the threat of frostbite, to curb our healthy habits. The windchill that plunges us into the deep freeze is passing and with it the dangers of freezing skin. This is a good thing, but there are other results. Open water that should be frozen, freeze and thaw, freeze and thaw, pushing the frost further into the ground. This creates conditions of uncertainty with some of our favorite past times. Avalanche hazards, melting snow, thin ice, caution, beware.
This is the dead of winter, when the cold is at it’s chilliest, but those rivers aren’t frozen yet. Beware!

A Time for Peace

Hail Bravehearts!.

To a strong and brave new day.
The ancients rose to a world of grandeur. Awesome planet with marvels to explore. Awesome human with daring to discover. Brilliant exchange of the marvelous wonders of the Earth, to stimulate the intellect of brilliant human minds. Where shall we go, oh brave ones? Where does the fascinating wonder take us?
The hunters and gatherers followed the great herds of migrating animals. The roaming beasts led them through valleys and plains, following a path of instinct to fertile areas for feeding and mating and bearing their young. The vast herds of wildlife, co-existing with their own predators. The migrating humans, following their food supply, the migrating predator, following their own food supply. A compatible niche of predator prey relations, of environmental sustainability, of the Earth, keeping its ecosystems intact.
The human, with simple needs of survival, but a brain in need of self fulfillment. Go there, oh brave ones and seek the destiny of your fine minds. Oh brilliant inventors, who eased the struggle of the masses, who taught the people to hunt and fish, to build and cook. The need of the brain is high. Explore and adventure, stretch your legs and your minds. Fine humans, to evolve to such greatness, of medicines and industry, of space exploration and travel, of culture and music and games and sport. Fine human, with skills so worthy, the Earth is your home and it saves you.
Plunder no more, oh great ones, for in this festive time of feast and plenty, of holidaying and cheer, of goodwill and peace, the Earth gives up more of its bounty and your stomachs overfill.
We starve!
Where is the food in a world with so much plenty? The starving, again. Our farms are productive, our industry secure. Food is wasted and the people starve.

It’s time, in our weary lives of strife and struggle, to throw off the chains of pain and animosity and rejoice in the wonder of the heavens and the earth. A time to sing, a time to pray, a time to laugh and a time to play. The joy of creation, where all is one. An Earth of beauty, of prosperity, of hope and caring. A birth of great wisdom, a holiday of peace, to all of you living, this holiday is for giving. The child of wonder, so dear and so pure. To celebrate living, only once a year!
This holiday is for everyone, regardless of everything. Christmas is a time for holiness and love, peace enduring. What represents life and love and humanity, only comes to us, once a year.

Winter Play

Winter Play

Good day Bravehearts!

We rise to a day of fresh falling snow. The wonder of our lives changes with this new season of fabulous fun and adventurous winter. A fine day of fresh tracks at the skihill, of snowshoes and ice skates and warm winter snuggly clothes. Winter is an awesome time of hot chocolate by the fire, of tobogganing, sledding, of building snowmen, of snow shoveling, snow ball fights, ice hockey and winter play.
Gone are the grey days of late, cold fall weather, the end of the mating season and the end of the harvest. The last of this years produce is put down and the seasons canning and storage are complete. Now the snow is falling and winter fun is here!

Rise, oh bravehearts to a glorious day of warm winter fun. Zero is a fabulous temperature, even minus 1. The warm, winter weather of freshly falling snow and the quiet of the snowfall, the crunch of our footsteps on the sidewalk, the clean, white blanket and the fresh, clean air. Gone is the brown of late autumn and the trees curl up for a long winters sleep. The grass is covered with clean, protective snow and the vegetation lies in slumber, beneath it’s warm white canopy. Rest for the weary. For the constant blooming, the constant growing, the constant photosynthesis, the constant producing, leaves the world, at a time like this, and sends it into peaceful slumber, as the winter sets in and whispers to us. Come out to play in the snow!
The snow!
Soft white swirling flakes of snow, each one different, no two snowflakes exactly alike. Each one unique and there are millions and millions of them. A cascade of play, falling to earth, bringing sport and fun. Don your hats and mitts, your scarves and toques, your warm winter coats and warm winter pants. Pull on the long underwear and the extra layer of clothing. Be warm and cozy in the chilly minus temperatures, and play!
This season could last a long time.
The logs are already cut for your fire, the fireplace awaits, it’s crackling flames and the kettle is boiling and calling you, to make another hot cuppa. Chocolate! and tea and warm winters brew. A season of cold remedies and flu shots and days off to recover. The occasional broken bones from falls on the ice, but still, the joys of the season are plenty and duty calls us. Be happy! Winter is here!
Lash on your skates and grab your stick. The very best of Canada and our favourite past times, are winter sports and play. That clearing on the ice, brings about a game. Our national sport, hockey is here. From the time that you are little, until you grow old, the passion of the ice rink or that shoveled spot on the lake, are the call of winter.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4–iEOftLZ4&spfreload=10 the beauty of hockey, the greatest game on the planet.

Our mission, to have fun. Our all Canadian dream, to win. This is the time for sport and play. Come on, Canada, get on with the game.

Still for the Curious

Still for the Curious

Hail Bravehearts

To the adventure of your lives.
The discovery of the world is an all consuming past time, full of wonder and daring. Awesome planet, to fill our world with beauty and adventure. The discovery of the variety and diversity of the planet is a constant life long pursuit. The great Earth, steeped in mystery and shrouded in a millenium of dust. Dust, hiding the treasures of the Earth, of the history of species, covering the past and hiding our roots.
Dig deep, for there is life under that dust. There is life in the air, in the water and in the great seas. Behold the wonders of the sea, for here is a food source that millions thrive upon, nations enjoy and the abundance of the sea is a world of adventure of it’s own.
Deep into the dark recesses of the earth, down into the mysterious ocean depths. Into sea channels and caverns to marvel at the fabulous array of sea life, the brilliant colours and the gardens of coral. The sea, filled with so much life and so much beauty. It captures us, it holds our interest, ever curious, always calling, the ever changing, tantalizing sea.

http://marinebio.org/oceans/creatures/ creatures of the sea.

The beach is a world of it’s own. The waves crash upon the shore, leaving behind the seas life, caught in its path. The tides cast their treasure onto the sand. Shells, coral, pretty stones and seaweed. The crashing waves, pulverizing the rocks, the shells, the corals, creating sand, pinks, yellows, beige. The soft, warm sand, massaging your toes. Warm sand to lies upon, to play in, to warm your body and to rest.
Don your wet suites, snorkel, mask and fins and tumble into the deep ocean blue. To the ocean floor where the brilliant life survives and thrives in the cool waters. Fish and coral, unusual creatures, shells and mollusks and seaweed. Life thrives in these depths and again, the earth offers a world of discovery to explore. The age old question, what lies beyond?
For ancient man has lived upon the sea, sought the sea for a food source and challenged himself to explore it. Still we search the oceans for life and living, for the numerous species that the oceans hold. Still the seas captures us, holds us and nourishes us.
Come, calls the sea, live and thrive by the great oceans and play in the water. Come, oh bravehearts and explore.

Fishing

Fishing

Hail Bravehearts

Cast your nets into the seas and prepare for the harvest that mankind has consumed for thousands of years. Fish. Fish a plenty from the great store of the waters, direct to your platters. A grocer, a farmer, a store of great variety, of fish and ocean dwellers, that serve as your dinner, your lunch, your breakfast, your snacks.
Cast your line into the water with baited hook and wait for the unsuspecting prey to catch your lure. Cunning and careful, not to divulge yourself, so that the wary prey will not suspect your presence and a trap. Fishing, for sport, for markets, but always for dinner, the catch of the day is your daily choice. All over the world, the waters feed the hungry. A seemingly endless supply of food.

http://www.overfishing.org will it last forever?

The trawlers raise anchor and set sail. The consumer lines the ailes in the grocery store, waiting for the verdict of today’s perils. A stormy sea, turbulent waters, murky depths and dark, brown waters. The nets were cast and the catch is there, but sparse today, as fishing for the multi-millions, the billions is an exertion for fishermen and oceans alike. The markets are waiting, the consumer still hungry, their bellies empty and their wallets ready. There are markets galore, and wealth to purchase, but the vanishing species determines the day. Not that fish today. Last seen, a year ago, and still that product evades us. Well, something else then.
Still the smiles as the purchase is made, not their favorite, but a food source still. Some spices and some creative cooking will prevail.
But what of the species that vanished. How far off shore to find it?
The fishermen traveled throughout the usual territory, but to no avail. Where did they go? There are only seven billion of us feeding from the oceans. Did we eat it all?

http://ocean.nationalgeographic.com/ocean/critical-issues-overfishing/ overfishing of the worlds oceans

The demands upon the oceans are exhaustive. Another net thrown in to sea. Another chance of pay and prosperity. Lines go out, a sportsman’s day. A fun and thrilling adventure, to fish the oceans and catch that handsome, mighty prey.
The fun, the daring, the challenge, the adventure and then, of course, the delicacy, served to you, for dinner.
For thousands of years, mankind has fished and loved the waters that serve up so much delight. A wonderful day, a wonderful life, to fill you larder from the grocery store of the sea.
Countless recipes, countless cooks, endless lines and nets and traps and variety. Cookbooks and chefs, diners and beachcombers, all of us, all the world, fishing the oceans for food.
Will it last forever?
The oil spills contaminate the water. Pollution and waste drift throughout the sea. Fish consume indigestible product and their breeding grounds are lost to development.
We love the sea. We love the beaches. We play and rest and nourish ourselves by the ocean waters. We look for shells and play in the sand, on the water, in the water, the waves, so much fun and so much life. The waters give us food, play, sport, relaxation, holidays, work and pay. The oceans, so much to live for, our dependency and our nourishment. Survival?

The Mighty Ocean Calls Us

The Mighty Ocean Calls Us

Hail Bravehearts!

The mighty ocean is our home and the seas and wind will call us. Billowing sails and mighty ships, the stalwart companions of daring and adventure, ride through storm and high seas to their destiny, the unknown. Brave spirits, the athletic adventurer of the world four hundred years ago. The extreme sportsman of yesteryear, pursuing the call to the wild life, of weeks and months, of toil and trouble, on the high seas. Education and skills and the spirit of champions, brought forth the sailor, from all walks of life.
The sea is now their home and they live with the water, the whales, the dolphins and birds. The circling seagulls capturing their fishes and taunting with their calls for food. Food! Everyone must be fed.
The rolling waves crest at dizzying heights and the sails rip and rattle with the wind. Rain and torrents hail upon them, but the ship and mast hold fast and the rolling ocean carries them off to the unknown.
The perils of the ocean were the call for this era. Come, oh brave hearts, to the horizon. Quell your fears and enter here, where myth and danger lurk in the deep blue sea.
Ocean and ship, water and boat, rivers and canoes. The waters call us as a highway to float upon, sail upon, paddle and motor. The ocean of prosperity and need.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRSTK9TyUYs&spfreload=10 ocean tranquility message.

Set your nets, for most of ocean faring was discovery and food. Catch the fish, fill the hold, feed the hungry. The ocean has fed us for thousands of years and the ocean feeds us still. A line cast into the water from shore, fishing is a hobby, a past time, an occupation and a necessity. Thousands of years of fishing. Thousands of years of being fed by the sea.
The nets cast into the water, pull out the fish in abundance. Time and again, hundreds of craft, cast their nets into the sea, expecting the mighty ocean to release its bounty to them. Feed us, mighty ocean, calls mankind and the ocean plays its tantalizing game. Come into the water, out to the deep water, come to play and fish and find sport. Your sturdy craft will roll high on the waves and the rhythmic lapping of water on your boat will lull you to peaceful slumber. Spend your time on the ocean, live your lives on the high seas. For your vessel is your home and the ocean will feed you and fishermen and heroes you will be.
The challenge is daunting, but courageous contenders they would be. The spirit, the life, the call of the ocean. A new home, a new world, stretches out to them and the horizon keeps drifting farther and farther away. Do they dare to be so courageous as to follow that line? Will it take them to new worlds or tip them off the planet? What lies in the horizon or beyond?
The sea, the fabulous sea, captivated their minds and holds it still, in tranquil dreamy waves and ocean play.

To The Sailors

To The Sailors

Hail Bravehearts

The adventure begins! Of boats and strings and sails and things, the mighty oceans call us. Venture, my friends into the wild Atlantic! Cast your fears aside and unfurl your spirit, the sails rise high and the wind is blowing. A day for adventure on the high seas, as the wind takes you out to sea. To the high seas, of ocean faring in a sturdy craft of wood and sail. The crew of stalwart sailors, unleash the sails and the mighty wind propels them onward. Onward to the journey, to the adventure, to the marketplace, to the catch of the day.
An occupation as a sailor in search of the newest land of plenty, the newest riches, the newest gold. Will it be jewels, artifacts, gold or silver? What will you discover, mighty sailor, in the new land? What new trade will you bring us?
Feed us, oh sailors, for we starve and die of hunger. Bring gifts of food and make it plenty.
Oh fine sailors, bring us gold, for we are fat and our stomachs overfull. Dollars and cents is what we live for. Just tell us how much wealth so we can profit more.
Hail, almighty sailors, as you cast yourselves off to the wind. God speed to you and bless your daring souls. You, the wanderers, the explorers, the adventurers, the daring, the brave, save us! For as some lay dying of hunger and poverty, the others drink in vast amounts of wealth. Save us, oh sailors, save us all.
A food source for the poor, a gold mine for the rich.
As the sailors cast off, the crowd at the docks, wave goodbye and pray for the mortal souls of these bravehearts. So much depends on their success. Greed for some, survival for others, but prayers and praises still.
The route to the new world has been explored already, so the ships captain navigates well. High rolling waves and turbulent ocean, storms and calm, all mastered by the knowledge of this almighty human. Skills, human. Skills. For the brave captain has learned his lessons well and thousands of kilometers of endless water, no landmarks in site, won’t ruffle the unbeatable education of this sea worthy man. He knows it all. How to set his sails, how to set his compass, how to set his mind. This almighty human will save them. The route to the new world and the conquest of the new land is upon us.

http://www.sailorsforthesea.org

Hail to the mighty sailor and to his precious cargo. What fortunes lie beneath the hold? Is it the wealth that we dream of? Do we have markets to explore? Is there plunder for the greedy and scraps for the poor? Oh,great sailor, who opens our minds to discovery, you are champions. The far off places, the adventure, the awesome and brilliant places. You, great sailor are the heroes of the day. Praises to your strength, your courage, that we may all live in ease and prosperity. Good fortune lights your way.
