The St Lawrence River

Good Day!  You Awesome Human.

As we explore our great country through Rivers to Oceans week, we celebrate the daring, the courage, the monumental feats of bravery.  The country was explored and opened by brave hearts.

The exploration by Jacques Cartier in 1534 to 1542 was the first European exploration of the St. Lawrence River.

The oceans brought the European to the already well inhabited land.  The country had been populated for thousands of years already, by migrants who crossed the northern land mass and settled in  the continent.

The Europeans crossed the oceans in a daring adventure of exploration, to discover what lies beyond the horizon and to unite worlds separated by water, tides, waves, weather, distance and fortitude.

Only your dreams will push you on, only your nightmares will stop you!

The bold adventurers came, onward, onward, into the straits of the St. Lawrence and pushed their crafts farther into the heart of the nation.  The contact was made, the discovery excels.  A new people, a new world, new trade, new prosperity.   The St. Lawrence River was the channel of discovery for these fortunate mariners.  It brought them fame, fortune, trade and the exhilarating right of conquest.  It secured their mission, proved their aptitude, yes, almighty human, the doors to the nation opened and the country let them in.

The mighty St. Lawrence River was the pathway to prosperity, negotiation, settlement and pride.  Oh, you worthy stalwart, to set sail on that day, one day, for the quest of your lives, for the rest of your lives.  To be the history, the making of a great nation.  To be the almighty man.

That one awesome, inspired day, became the might and greatness of several great nations.  Jacques Cartier for France visited a country named for a collection of huts.  Kanata!  And so it was born.  Born from the passage of a great river, born from the passage of a great ocean.  Born from brilliant aptitudes of navigation, sailing, shipbuilding, negotiation, leadership, compassion and daring.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacques_cartier

The bold adventurer seeks the challenge and the brilliant aptitudes achieves it.

The consequential negotiation brought fantastic prosperity to France.  The oceans yielded a seemingly unlimited harvest of fresh fish for the hungry. Food in abundance, led early settlers to a new land, a new life of promise.  The negotiation was successful, colonization was possible.  The impossible dream would be attempted.

For France the colony meant new lands, new life, new wealth.  The daring challenge was met, the conquest told.  Oh you fortuitous stalwarts, climb aboard.  Climb aboard for the adventure of you life.  There’s no looking back.  And so they did.   Pioneers who could settle an unknown nation, with unknown plants and soil.  To cut a tract of land for farming, build houses, invent.   To set the course of history.  To be the indomitable human.

http://suite101.com/article/jacques-cartier-and-charlesbourgroyal-a173492

The first colony was on the banks of the mighty St. Lawrence River.  It didn’t last, but the failure didn’t stop  them.  Another attempt would be made.

Rivers to Oceans.  This week is for us. This is our cultural heritage.  From rivers and oceans our nation was born.

Hail, almighty human.

Commuter Challenge

Commuter Challenge

And God created the Earth.

The vast heavens, the bountiful  oceans, the abundant life on the planet.  And He also created us, the human.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFq42IibUeY earth song meditation

It’s environment week and there are many ways to enjoy this national celebration of preservation and environmental protection.  We all need clean air, clean water, sunshine and healthy living.  We all need to stretch our legs and join the crusade to walk, run, hike, bicycle and to be the champion.  The more often we leave our vehicles at home and use other methods of transportation to reach our goals, for example, public transportation, car pools, bicycling or walking, the fewer emisions we put into the atmosphere.  With less emmisions the air is cleaner and clean air is better for us and better for the planet.

http://www.environment.gov.ab.ca/edu/eweek/

Yes, the trees and plants are capable of cleaning the air, but they can’t do it all.  Pollution is a cause of decreasing life expectancy and disease.

To take to the trails or the streets for running, walking and cycling is a pursuit of the joy of living.  The increased fitness level powers you on and the earth sighs with gratitude.  Only footsteps, only the power of the muscles.  Each step increases lung capacity and cardiovascular strength.  Each step promotes healthy living and promotes the health of the planet.

Each breath that you take, fills your lungs with oxygen for the health of your blood and your cells.  The increased oxygen feeds your cells and helps them to fight off disease.

Feel the cool of the forest as you pass under the canopy of the trees.  There is life in the foliage and oxygen productivity in the leaves.  The cool shade is a welcome retreat from the scorching sun.  The busy birds and insects hurry onward with their own day.  The plantings save the water shed and the rushing sound of water fills our ears.  Clean water!  Water for our bodies, we can’t live without it.  Clean water with no pollution,  no water born disease.

The busy sidewalks turn into a carpet of grass.  Soft, green, fresh grass.  The life under your feet saves the soil, with all of it’s life supporting nutrients.  Under your feet is the domain of the soil and all of the tiny micro organisms and earth life.  The soil, the building block of plant growth.

Feel the earth under your feet.  The life producing quality of the soil.  Rich in nutrients for our harvest, the soil is key to our survival.  Healthy soil, healthy food.  No pollution or contaminants of the earth

As we prepare ourselves for another day of healthy living, for us, for the environment, for the earth, remember to give thanks for life itself, all life.

The commuter challenge promotes healthy bodies, healthy lives, healthy living.  Brilliant mankind, the choice has always been yours, choose health.

Environment Week

Environment Week

Listen to the Earth song.  The rapture, the glory.  The song from the mighty planet, it fills our lives.  Hear the sounds of the planet, with joy, with gladness.  Great, bountiful Earth with songs of praises, songs of joy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCJ5DwPWIIw

The brilliant, beautiful displays of colour.  All the hues of the forest, all the vibrance of the meadows,  all the showy flowers and the cascading waters.  The Earth.  So magnificent, so powerful.  All life comes  to us from this mighty planet.

Here, you awesome planet, the oasis for us.  We live our lives with gratitude, with compassion. For the world presents itself with boundless  discovery!  Each day gives us the opportunity for more knowledge, more sport, more information, more aptitude.  The mighty Earth with its seasons and  changes.  The great, good Earth, how to praise it.

This week, this short space in time, we contemplate the protection of the planet. How to save it, how to save ourselves.  One short week of sharing ideas, information and knowledge.  Too little.  To take a week out of our year to concentrate on environmental protection, is  not enough time.  In the lifespan of the mighty planet,  the needs for protection of the planet is constant.

Constant striving for zero pollution, constant striving for human population control, constant striving to reduce the impacts of development.

Environment week praises the planet for all of life.

http://www.edmonton.ca/environmental/programs/environment-week.aspx

Thank  you, sighs the great planet, Earth, for the protection of that ecosystem. for unpolluted waters, unpolluted skies, unpolluted soil.  Thank you for no plunder, all life survives.  Thank you, almighty human, for compassion, nurturing, reforestration.  Without the forest, the planet will suffocate, it will die.  Without oxygen in the mighty ocean, it will die.

The mighty planet sighs, with the burden of pollution.  Too much for its natural abilities to recover.  Too much waste, too much plunder.  Too much hardship for the great planet.  It’s immense variety of animal life is being destroyed, it’s wonderful  forests, for air to breathe are vanishing,  it’s mighty oceans are dying.

Brilliant mankind, sighs the great planet.  Thank you for your efforts.  Each ecosystem is fragile, each is needed, each is a creation of its own divinity.  Each is a refuge to a world of it’s own.

Brilliant mankind, sight the great planet.  Thank you for environment week, even this small gesture, is worthy of praises.

The Viking

The Viking

Hail Mankind.  This beautiful, bright day is upon us.

The shrouded mystery of centuries old man, sheds light on the brilliant aptitudes that surround us.  Where does he come from?  That leader of man. The compelling courage that draws us to the adventure, too difficult to be dared.  All faith and acceptance of an inspired human who has an unusual calling.  Come!  He becons and they rise with courage.  The challenge is worthwhile.  Yes, they will pursue the dream and live and die the dream, for only dreams are the reality of the adventurer.

Come, to the far off land and travel they did.  The voyage of discovery took them to Iceland, where their colony lasted.  It took them to Greenland where their colony lasted as well and it took them to the shores of Canada, where they stayed for a short few years then left.  The 300 years of Viking exploration and discovery, ended with a distraction of a new influence that changed their lives.  No longer the raiding parties of fierce combatants, they now settled into a quiet existence of a different mankind. No more the plunder, the destruction, the victorious wars.  No more the seafaring exploits to new lands and new promise.  No more the grand adventure to the continent of the Americas.  Now, the world has changed and the aggressive raiding war parties vanished.

Who were you, almighty man, with superior technology.  The navigational skills, the shipbuilding the technologies, the skills, the passion and the courage.  The life of these daring adventurer were mainly farmers.  After centuries of dauntless adventure, they returned to their homeland and the soil.

http://www.visitnorway.com/

A new lord reigned and he commanded a different presence.  The serene life of tranquility and abundance from a god of a different countenance.  No more the war faring indulgence and exploits of courage.  Now, a different kind of courage.

It would be 400 years before the Europeans voyaged across the ocean again.

Still, in the minds of the voyageur, there is the skilled shipbuilder of the past.  The present casts its eyes on the whole world and travels the seas once more.  The adventure is still the calling, but the  craft and character has changed.  Now the plunder is in the eye of the beholder, in cameras and paintings and craft.  The shipbuilder of the past has become the streamliner of the present.  From travelling with slaves to sailing with dignitaries the ocean liner is now the fleet of the present human.

From ancient skills to modern vessels this ancient man has somehow remained.  The ocean still calls them, the high seas are still their home.  Come with us, they call us, be our guests.  Welcome.

http://www.ncl.com/

The grandeur of the past presents itself in the glorious present.  The seas are our home. Join us.  This is who we are today.

A Colony

A Colony

Good morning all you awesome beings.  It’s another day of creation and grandeur.  Another day of bold inspirations and  undertakings.

Hear the call, as the earth awakens.  It becons us.  Rise, mankind, your call to another fabulous day.

Here, sighs the great planet, as another morning approaches, another sun climbs into the sky, another day unfolds before us.  Here, almighty human, is another day, for you.  For your quest, for your courage, for your heart, for your adventure.  Inspired human, with such magnificent aptitude, leadership, knowledge, strength and skills.  You, who rise above the rest and say, follow me, follow me, follow me to the ends of the earth, to the end of time. Oh mortal man, with mortal life, follow me into the unknown.  Follow me into dread and peril.  Follow me into dark and danger.  Follow me, for I am the leader and you are my dutiful subjects.  Follow me.

http://www.history.com/shows/Vikings

Their greatly skilled leader chose a formidable route, through the high seas to lands of unpromising abundance.  Weather, snow, hardship and toil.  The lands were harsh, the landscape difficult, the weather unbearable, the oceans high and tumultuous, wind, current, rain.  Still to travel on, to voyage of discovery, to tales of heroic triumph, to be the unbeatable foe.  The quest was immense, the distance overwhelming, the hero an uncanny mortal man.

We’ll colonize here, demands the mighty leader and the deathly, dread of the dutiful subjects acknowledge their plight.  Yes, they will stay.  In this unknown place, their fate is sealed.

http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/lhn-nhs/nl/meadows/index.aspx

For a few spectacular years they foraged in the forest, built their small community, reaped a harvest and stayed in the strange, far off land of shrouded mystery.  Yes, these stalwarts survived.  The first landing, the first colony, the first nation to set foot on the land of plenty.  The colonization was successful.  They survived the  winter and the warm, vibrant summer.  They proved their strength, their superiority, their skills and their might.  These early inhabitants from the north sea proved their creative genius, their will to survive, their superior strength of mind and body.  They felt the swell of pride in their chests, the song of glory in their hearts.  Victory!  The thrill of achievement.  They were the almighty man!  The courageous adventurer, the indomitable foe!.

And then they left.

Home, cries the heart.  Home cries the soul.  Home cries the spirit and with the homesick heart of man, came the compelling urge to abandon.  They left.

400 years would pass before another from their continent would traverse the high seas to these far off lands.  The year is 1000 AD.  The people were farmers from the Scandinavian countries.  Farmers, who dared to be sailors.

Without their heroic leader, they no longer had the desire or the inclination to set their sights on destinies unknown.  No longer the urge to explore uncharted waters, to discover great continents.  No longer the will or the drive to mount an expedition of men to pursue the call to adventure.

Now, they were quiet.  The gift of that great spirit of man that moved them to acts of tremendous courage had parted.  They waited in quiet anticipation for another.  Who would lead them on?  Their memories of grandeur moved them.  Dare we?  Should we?  A leader was needed.  Their patience was uneasy.  The adventure was necessary.  A new leader was needed,  but the leader didn’t come.

The Brave

The Brave

To be brilliant, we need a forum for our aptitude.  An arena to vocalize in some manner.  We need a contingency of experts to hear us, to applaud, to praise and to acknowledge.  We need our voices to be heard.

Through the thousands of years of human history, our voices have been acknowledged by our fellow man.  Hear us, we call to each other, our splendid negotiations keep  peace amongst us and our lives never fail.

SSSh!  There’s a secret.  Our technologies are superior.  The vast oceans have been transversed and a new land is discovered.  Our superior technologies and our superior negotiations surpass all.  We are the bold adventurers who discovered a new continent.  It’s not an island, it’s a land mass.  The oceans surrounding it’s shores are filled with sealife.  So much food, we’ll never starve.  Our nets are cast and they never come up empty.  They overflow!  Food.  Food for everyone and perhaps, a colony?

http://www.history-timelines.org.uk/places-timelines/09-canadian-history-timeline.htm

The first adventurer to discover this land, the bold, the daring, the brave.  So much courage to set sail for sights unknown, to travel the great distance with such obvious perils, yet to persevere.  On and on to travel (with lost confusion?) possibly.  Hopeless, forlorn?  To battle the waves, the wind, the current, the time, the hunger, the fear.  Yet to travel on.  Somewhere, there will be shelter.

The new land was a relief and by the skills of their intelligence, they could find it again.  Technological experts of their time, they were equipped for sea travel.  The ocean was also a home, of sorts, so familiar, so abundant.  It kept the sailors perpetually occupied.  So much to see, so much to know.  Exceptional navigators, they always had their berings right.  The life of the sailor was the life of a daring, unsurpassed adventurer.  So much to know, so much to experience.  The navigator, the sailor, the specialist at wind and current, the immense expanse of universe in the stars, the far off places, the challenge of unknown people, places, language, culture. The superior call to a daring, brilliant mankind, who dared it all.

Yes! The call to the wild.  Yes! the call to a challenge beyond the ability of the average man.  Yes!  The call to the dauntless, bold adventurer whose bravery was unparalleled.  Yes!  To find new continents.  Yes!  To find new treasurers.  Yes!  To the wealth of knowledge, wealth and treasures of the world.

No to anarchy.  No to slavery. No, to life that is complacent, quiet.  No to the homebody.  Yes, only to the adventure and whatever life its brings!

They will travel the seven seas.  They will forge new relationships.  They  will conquer new lands.  They will swim in unchartered waters.  All perils will be overcome!  Yes!  They will achieve,  Yes!  They will.  Nothing will stop the relentless adventurer!  Nothing will quench that spirit!

They paddled their ships to the new world.  They paddled for discovery.  Later they sailed.

Hail mankind.  The brilliant fortitude that gives  you the strength to travel onward, gives you the courage to persevere.

Endangered Species Day

Endangered Species Day

Good morning, oh brilliant one.

This day is not a gesture, not a complacent whim of hope.  This day, May 17th is a day for the celebration of the creative powers of the Earth.  A day to notice and to communicate the awesome gift of the planet.

Fabulous planet, full of life and energy.  Ever creating, ever nurturing, always pursuing the dauntless challenge of filling the void with life, all life.  The cherished great planet fills all of its surfaces with life and places each life form in accordance with the environment that it belongs to.  The environment that it protects.

The national day for endangered species speaks to the topics of the health of the planet.  Why are they dying?  The planet needs what it creates to survive, almighty man and the planet creates an abundance of plant and animal life for the survival of all life on the planet.  Each and every species was created to survive.  The cunning specialist who’s adaptability places them in extreme conditions.  The constant cold, the constant heat, the constant wind, the constant rain, the snow, the perils of weather, habitat loss, hunger, predation and more.  Only the skillful creature, whose adaptability is strong will survive.

But is that all we are?  Survival of the fittest.  As the world changes, the need for our compassion increases.  As the forests shrink, so does our own human habitat.  Less air, less oxygen.  As these animals decline, so does the health of the planet.  How many environmental diseases spring up due to polluted waters, polluted air, less oxygen, more waste.

The natural world is a vital, healthy world.  A world full of drama as each being acts out its own role in creation.  Almighty human, where are we?

We are far beyond acting out our role in survival, but not beyond the perils of endangering ourselves.  Good health fails us as we struggle against pesticides, insecticides, emissions.  We are the mighty ones, we are in control.  The plight of the planet presents itself  in the peril of the endangered life forms.  It can’t replenish them as fast as they fail.

Another animal who suffers starvation due to habitat loss, another animal who won’t mate and reproduce due to hunger.  Another forest gone another waterway polluted.

visit;  http://www.earthsendangered.com/list.asp  for todays list of endangered species.

Almighty human, your common sense is the highest of all of creation.  The gift of the planet is magnificent.  The songs of the wildlife sings to you.  The gentle breezes play at your senses and the scent of the flowers fills your mind and soothes your soul with aromatherapy.  What dread befalls us without the creation of the Earth.  Dust to dust, we will follow them.

Hear their call, almighty human.  They need us for their own survival, but we need them as well.

Food – Part 4

Food – Part 4

Food, Part 4

The shepherd is a weaver. She keeps six sheep on her small property and plants enough potato and root vegetables for her survival. She also has a cherry, a mountain ash and an apple. Her sheep provide wool or weaving, meat and skins to sell. Her one goat gives her milk, butter, cheese and yogourt. She dyes the wool from natural products and weaves beautiful blankets. The yearly lammps are slaughtered for meat and the skins are used for furnishings and clothing. There is trade in propogating the livestock. The goatherd and the shepherd keep bucks for breading. The hortaculturalist brings her ewes for fertiliztion. The lactating ewe provides milk and the offspring are butchered for meat and skins.
The poultry farmer has a dozen chickens and a rooster. She has a dozen eggs to sell every day or raises chickens for meat. She plants sunflowers to supplement their diet and her own. She plants corn for flour, currants, potato and spice. Her trade is obvious, a dozen eggs for milk, but eventually, she buys her own goat. It’s easier that way.
There are other homesteaders, each doing a variety of this kind of production on their own properties.
The plantings are easy, two fruit bearing trees per corner and perhaps another along the hedgerow. The hedgerow is a row of fruit bearing shrubs, berries and currants and the entire property is fenced this way. Under the shrubs are spices and strawberries.
The property is divided in half, 50’x100′ for the animals and 50’x100′ for the house and gardens. The garden consists of rhubarb, corn, potato and whatever other vegetables they desire. Sunflowers and other flowers add to their yield.

These are examples of cottage industry homesteaders. There are other wonderful uses for property that add to the benefit of the people in this community. There is other small cottage industry that the property provides for. A florist, soap production, perfume ( essential oil). These people can be self-sufficient without very much land, even in cooler climates.
The homesteaders need to be careful in choosing the location for planting the trees, because of how much shade is cast and the spread of the canopy. In order to maximize the light, the trees need to be planted so that the shadow isn’t too dark. If the shadow is too dark, the other plants will struggle to survive. Paying attention to the light and dark, as the sun travels throughout the day, will help to indicate the correct area for the trees.
Your call to action, share this post. Please comment on the post, if you would like to.
In most locations, people can do some of the production that is indicated by these posts. You might not be able to have livestock, but you can have trees and a vegetable garden. If you live in an apartment, inquire as to the availability of garden plots in your community, or you can grow some vegetables in a sunny window in your home and on the balcony.
The garden catalogues are now out. One is http://www.offers@springgarden.ca

The People

The People

Good morning, mankind. Good morning, brave new world.

Ours is a world of adventure, built from a society of healthy, adapted people who met the challenge of life in the unchartered wilderness. A society of people who greeted the wild landscape with awe and inspiration. These peoples who followed the wildlife as hunters, who listened to the song of the Earth with gladness. The migrating birds filled their lives with prosperity, the lakes and oceans filled their stomachs with nutritious food, the forest plants provided berries and fruit. This is a land of plenty, to the daring adventurer whose heart sang at the challenge of living.

And what is it to live? Is it merely to survive?  visit : http://extreme.com and view a video of one of the latest extreme sports. The daring adventurer lives for the joy of climbing the mountain, swimming the lakes, canoeing the rivers, hiking and hunting and dreaming the dreams of life everlasting. Praises to the great planet! Praises for the abundance of harvest! Praises for the joy of living! This amazing ancestor had all of the necessities of life. Clean air from uncut forests, clean water from unpolluted streams, food in abundance from a land of plenty, medicines from herbal remedies available from plants. The early human was an indomitable being, strong and courageous with a will to survive and live in prosperity.   This human was a genius at survival, able to craft tools, hunt, fish and play.  This human, who dressed in skins and furs.  The civilized man who lived in settlements and built communities.

This  civilized human who had so much luxury, they could share.   Furs for clothing, furs for bedding.  Skins for clothing and  skins for furnishings.  They had so much, that they would trade and share.

Share, the land, share their prosperity, share their wealth.  They would give their children in marriage, share their culture, share their knowledge, share their wisdom of the earth.  All who were so fortunate as to befriend them would live in safety and kinship and compassion.  Share this great land.  There was plenty for all.

Plenty of land, plenty of food, plenty of resources.  Not only for the human, but for the wildlife as well.  The land was filled with wild life and the lakes and oceans were filled with aquatic species.  So  much abundance from the Earth.  No hunger to the skillful hunter.

Our fortunate ancestors came to a land of humanity.  The people had luxury and leisure.  The trade in beads for artwork was an addition to the already bountiful life of the indigenous peoples.  They had time to spare and time to work on their great works of art.  Beads were in addition to their already well developed dyes for painting, feathers, bone and skin that were used constantly in art and apparel.

The people lived in developed settlements all across the country.  A civilization of unique people with culture derived from the abundance of the Earth.

The early explorers encountered a land of diversity.  Fabulous creation by the great planet!  A wealth of discovery to explore.  This land, cast by the hand of the Almighty.  Fabulous country.  Awesome mankind.  Who are we, but the daring adventurer.  The uncharted wilderness was only a dare, courageous human, to explore.  Courageous human to share.  Life everlasting.  No  mortal perish. One great nation, one unified force.  For preservation, for  humanity, the moral, courageous spirit of man.  Hail Braveheart.  Your bravery conquers all.

It is wilderness, full of the beauty of the creation of the Earth.  The birds fly in multitudes,  the mighty beasts fill the lands and the ocean brims with creatures aquatic.  This is the land that the Almighty gave us and this is the land we share.

Early man, who married the indigenous people and lived.  Clever human, to   share so wisely.  To care so deeply.  To love so unconditionally.  Clever human, to build this great land.  To protect.   To preserve.  Clever human, to save the forest so the earth can breathe, to save the watershed so that the earth can cleanse itself, to save the animals so that the earth can create another miracle of an ecosystem, a miracle of life, a miracle of love.  The gift of the Almighty, to the human, was the great planet Earth, with all of the magnificence that  the Earth can create.  Lucky human, to share such a tremendous creation as the great planet Earth.

The Earth sighs,  thank you, almighty human, for protecting all of my creation.  The needs of the planet are high.

Thank you almighty human for saving the great oceans and all of the aquatic life within.  Thank you great human, for the protected airways, the protected landscapes and the protected ecosystem.
