Let Them Eat Pie

Let Them Eat Pie

Hail almighty ones

Let them eat pie.  These almost famous words evoke memories of lives past.  What could possibly be wrong with pie?  The nutritious blend of wheat, to help you with your daily fibre.  The addition of fruit, full of vitamins, topped with your favorite antioxidants, like blueberry or raspberry.  Pie for breakfast.  The perfect way to start your day.  Granola with berries, farm fresh and organic, vitamins, vitamins, vitamins.

The great planet has given us a full larder this year, a bumper crop of berries, fruit from the trees and a delicious side line of rose hips for jam.  The nutritional value of the backyard larder is immense.  Add to this the buckets of blueberries, offered wild by the roadside and you’ve scored your nutritional elements for the winter.  The buzz word this year is anti-oxidant.  Cancer fighting gems of gold, to keep your body healthy and fit.  Keep your body disease free.  Those minuscule plantings of organic berries, hold the key to keeping your body in top form, for fighting the ravages of some serious disease.

http://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/features/10-super-foods#1

And this was yester world, in a time long past, before those deadly diseases were born.  In a time of the homesteader, before trucking and before pesticides, before genetically engineered product, before big business farming and before the mass marketing and mass advertising.  A time of the corner grocery store, the marketplace, the roadside fruit stand.  There was a time, when entire nations fed themselves and the word organic, was taken for granted.  All food was organic.  No pesticides, no preservatives, no artificial sweeteners or coloring.  A time before plastic, when food was packed in cardboard boxes and wrapped in paper, a time when farm fresh goodness was common place.  Dangerous illnesses like cancer, were not as commonplace.

What is the key?  What is the factor that changes this?  Is it just our lives and our lifestyle?  The stress level or the pollution index.  Factors out of our control, or something more significant, some thing that we can control and that only we, ourselves can take charge of.  In those bygone years of yesterday, the family diet was quite different.  Granola with berries, easy to make. Full of freshness and packed with nutrients.  The larder was full, the canning season taken seriously, put your crops down, fill the pantry, make your preserves.  Diet is crucial to maintaining a healthy body.  Your diet can save you. It can boost your immune system and fight the diseases.  It can help you maintain body weight and skin tone, muscle firmness and shiny hair.  Your diet can make your eyes sparkle and your body spring with life.  Your diet helps you to live long and to live well.  Your perfect body, your perfect diet, a blend of common sense and lifestyle.

Eat your way to your good health and plant your garden with seeds of goodness and the love of living.  This is where your heart is, body and soul, literally.

The Case, page 5

Good Day, you awesome human

Generations of internal peace and prosperity have left this land to you. Praises to you for the great peace of our ancestors and for the quiet calm of harmony. The brilliant diversity of multi-culturalism has enriched our lives and brought peace to thousands.

The Canadian cultural landscape is filled with diversity. The sharing of the richness of heredity is a gift. A gift of knowledge, intelligence and beauty. The preservation of such gifts is a national dream. Our national treasures aquaint us with the mysteries of the great planet. The mystery of bio diversity, of the human, of the ancient past. Our aptitudes thrive in such a land, building, sharing and preservation. The great gift of today comes from a past of diligence, daring, nurture and care. Each careful step to the fulfillment of a dream. A land of beauty and prosperity.
Brave fur traders, sensible exchange, hearty pioneers, diligent work. The work ethics of our past is the reward of our present. The safety and security of our culture is the preservation of the dignity of our ancestors. They came, they rose to the challenge and they achieved.
Generations of the family farm brings us national pride. No destruction, no despair. The endless call to finer produce, finer meat, finer farming. The endless call to feed the nation, to feed the starving. The diligence to the craft. Build a better product and save the hungry.
A noble cause from caring business enterprise. A commonplace cause in yesteryear, commonplace in the 1800’s, but not so much now. Our dependence upon those few who try, increases as cities fill, shopping malls increase and retail, merchandise and commerce become the more sought after way of life. Fewer and fewer farms to feed the growing masses of the multitudes of humanity in this country. Fewer and fewer people whose talents and skills lie with the land.
Immigration is steady. It brings many gifts. Culture, recreation, connections to countries abroad. It brings a demand for international relations, for products and services to fulfill the needs of newcomers. Cities swell, urban areas develop, the demand for food product increases, but the family farm diminishes. Of the thousands who enter the country, few leave the cities, few choose to farm.
Of all of our nations wealth and prosperity, where will we be without food.

http://www.gofundme.com/FarmedAndDangerous

The family farm is in decline. Mishaps that cause alarm resound in our ears. The food chain is threatened. This is not just a case about sheep. The other animals are gone as well. This is a case about a farm. A Canadian farm. An industry in decline in Canada. An industry that helped to build a strong and healthy population, a strong and healthy nation. An industry first and foremost in our minds. Food.
Our negotiations cannot fail.

Commuter Challenge

Commuter Challenge

And God created the Earth.

The vast heavens, the bountiful  oceans, the abundant life on the planet.  And He also created us, the human.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFq42IibUeY earth song meditation

It’s environment week and there are many ways to enjoy this national celebration of preservation and environmental protection.  We all need clean air, clean water, sunshine and healthy living.  We all need to stretch our legs and join the crusade to walk, run, hike, bicycle and to be the champion.  The more often we leave our vehicles at home and use other methods of transportation to reach our goals, for example, public transportation, car pools, bicycling or walking, the fewer emisions we put into the atmosphere.  With less emmisions the air is cleaner and clean air is better for us and better for the planet.

http://www.environment.gov.ab.ca/edu/eweek/

Yes, the trees and plants are capable of cleaning the air, but they can’t do it all.  Pollution is a cause of decreasing life expectancy and disease.

To take to the trails or the streets for running, walking and cycling is a pursuit of the joy of living.  The increased fitness level powers you on and the earth sighs with gratitude.  Only footsteps, only the power of the muscles.  Each step increases lung capacity and cardiovascular strength.  Each step promotes healthy living and promotes the health of the planet.

Each breath that you take, fills your lungs with oxygen for the health of your blood and your cells.  The increased oxygen feeds your cells and helps them to fight off disease.

Feel the cool of the forest as you pass under the canopy of the trees.  There is life in the foliage and oxygen productivity in the leaves.  The cool shade is a welcome retreat from the scorching sun.  The busy birds and insects hurry onward with their own day.  The plantings save the water shed and the rushing sound of water fills our ears.  Clean water!  Water for our bodies, we can’t live without it.  Clean water with no pollution,  no water born disease.

The busy sidewalks turn into a carpet of grass.  Soft, green, fresh grass.  The life under your feet saves the soil, with all of it’s life supporting nutrients.  Under your feet is the domain of the soil and all of the tiny micro organisms and earth life.  The soil, the building block of plant growth.

Feel the earth under your feet.  The life producing quality of the soil.  Rich in nutrients for our harvest, the soil is key to our survival.  Healthy soil, healthy food.  No pollution or contaminants of the earth

As we prepare ourselves for another day of healthy living, for us, for the environment, for the earth, remember to give thanks for life itself, all life.

The commuter challenge promotes healthy bodies, healthy lives, healthy living.  Brilliant mankind, the choice has always been yours, choose health.

The Race

The Race

http://www.bjr.ca/

Feel the power!  It courses through your veins and propels you onward.  The power, the strength, the might, the stamina.  Practice, practise, practise.  It echoes through your head and swells in your mind.  Breathe!

As you meditate in that quiet place in your mind, as you relax into the challenge ahead, your mind is all of it.  You are the champion.

Time after time, day after day, you have struggled tor this day.  This one day.  This awesome day.

http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=banff+national+park&qpvt=banff+national+park&FORM=IGRE

It unfolds as the adventure of your life.

Each decision you make, each step you take, each breath you breathe, takes you closer, closer to that dream, that goal, that  definition.  You are the champion.

Breathe and relax.  Your body propels you forward.  The rhythmic conditioned response from a brain well trained and a body self fulfilling.  Step after step you feel the power.  Repeat, repeat, repeat. Onward you fly.  Your loose, conditioned body flies along the ground, it soars to the call.  Yes, it responds, I can, I will!

The challenge is easy, the pace is set.  It’s sustainable for the duration and there is more.  More strength from this well trained body, more determination  from this well trained mind. The focus is clear.  Relax and enjoy.  The power will take you there.

Step, step, step.  Run!  Your body cries out to you with gladness.  Thank you for this great day!  Thank you for health, vitality, fitness, strength, passion and might.   This strong, athletic body feels the pace, it feels its training.  Bold, courageous mind, in meditative focus.  The pain is gone, only the life form remains.

Mankind, the adventurer was built for exercise like this.  This is the conditioning of the human body.  This is the will of the human mind.  To  focus on this task, to set your mind for this goal.

Feel the power, feel the strength, feel the ease of motion, the propulsion forward.  The constant fluidity of the body, form, style, reach.  Each stride takes you closer and closer to the goal.  Each movement a conditioned response from a focused mind.  Breathe!  The tension releases and your body excels.   It soothes and awakens your spirit.  It soars!  The passion of the race, the properly conditioned body, the intelligent, astute mind.  All in one direction, all for one purpose, all for one destiny.

You are the champion.  This is your great day.

Heal champion!  Heal the fatigue, heal the soreness.  Each step is a moment of glory.  A moment of self fulfillment.   Be the prophecy!  Be the strength that carries on.  Onward, onward, your goal to healthful living, to healing, to longevity, to life everlasting.

Step, step, step.  Your routine call to accept this challenge.  This is might, this is power, this is courage.  Relentless body that will not quit.  Relentless mind that will not give up.  Push to achieve.  Strive to achieve.  Be the achieved!

This is not too much for you.  This is all within the realms of your abilities.  Passionate mind, perfect body, fluid and comfortable.  This is your day.  An awesome day.  A day for a test, a challenge.  A day for you, almighty human.  Run!  Run like the wind.  Sing your own gladsome song. Propel your self onward.  Go!  Stride, pace, challenge.  It’s all for you.  It’s all about you.

Today, you are a champion.

Food Part 3

Food Part 3

Food, Part 3

Her neighbour has the same amount of land. On this plot he houses seven pigs, one boar and six sows for regular pig production. Usually there are 16 maturing pigs, 16 young pigs and 16 piglets at a time. In the first year, they produce 48 piglets which he will raise large enough to provide meat for himself and some to sell. He has a smoke house for making ham and bacon, so his product is highly valued and he easily sustains himself.
The hides are tanned for leather. He also has a garden and an orchard. His trees are four crabapple, a mountain ash and a chokecherry. He puts in a hedge of raspberry and plants rhubarb, potato, corn for flour and pig food and other root vegetables. He will easily survive. There is enough fruit for pies, jam and pemican ( if needed) He will also trade with his neighbours some spun wool for smoked meat. All of this on a small plot of land 100’x100′.
The next property is a gardener. He puts in his crops of potato and other vegetables. He turns most of his property into a vegetable garden. He has to have his sheep, goat and chickens to survive, but they are kept in a small pen behind his house. He starts vegetables indoors and plants in containers, as well to add to his yield. There are zuccini, pumpkin and squash. He also plants lavendar and roses and starts a soap production. He purchases a still to make purfumes.
The next property is a goatherd. He has six goats on his land. His primary purpose is dairy. The goats provide milk for cheese, cottage cheese, yogourt, butter, milk and ice cream. He plants currants, raspberry, blueberry, saskatoon and oregano, savory, dill, mint ,thyme, sage and chives. He needs the berries to flavour his yogourt and ice cream and spice to flavour his cheese. He has plenty for trade and sale.
All of this without a tractor or a rotatiller.
These people all needed to gather seeds to plant their gardens.
Fortunatley, there are many seed companies to access online instead. visit:http://www.StokesSeeds.com or http://www.mckenzieseeds.com for information and to purchase seeds for your gardens.
There is now a growing trend to plant gardens in small garden plots, provided by the community. More and more people are becoming aware of the need for fresh, organic produce to help them survive. Planting and growing gardens has intrinsic rewards, as well as the obvious reward of the food production. The city of Hamilton, Ontario has set aside garden plots for decades, for those garden enthusiasts who don’t have land of their own. To see it for yourself, visit, http://www.growinggreenhamilton.com.
If you’re interested in garden plots in your own community, contact your local municipal government for information. Usually, if there are garden plots already available, this information is online if you google, community garden plots, food societies or garden plots, in your area.
For those of you with larger properties who are looking for trees and plants, there are some northern nurseries that have zone friendly plants.
Please visit: www.cheyennetree.ca and also, www.kiwinurseries.com. The Kiwi Nursery is the only one that I’ve seen who has black walnut, if it interests you.
